Are you thinking of revamping your kitchen next year? Or are you planning on building a new kitchen? Well here are the hot tips for kitchens next year……
Hardware: it’s not going to be just about appliances in 2018. Hardware is going to be the shining star. For instance, BLUM hardware (which of course, we use at TH Kitchens + Joinery) has a lifetime warranty and ensures your kitchen is functional and innovative, with ease of motion. In particular, black hinges instead of chrome will be a feature next year (this is a free optional extra at C.H.I).
Joinery: cabinetry is going to be taken very seriously and it’s not just about your benchtops and doors. The joinery INSIDE cupboards is going to be a feature. For example, having Natural Oak Timber lining your inner drawers.
Colour palette: Shades of blue, moss or sage green are going to feature next year – a connection with nature to refresh kitchens. Particularly alongside neutral tones.
Two tone cabinetry is the trend with colour added through island benches or under bench cupboards, and keeping overheads a lighter shade or simply white to add colour impact without dominating.
Warm shades of grey are still popular next year but is being replaced with “greige”, a softer grey with a dose of taupe mixed in. “Greige” cabinets provide the perfect balance between warm and cool undertones, and is easily complimented with blues and whites if leaning towards cool hues, or with dark countertops or dark woods for contrast. Gold or brass hardware pairs well with greige kitchen cabinets for more glamour. Black and white is also still popular but will shift to include moodier colours such as charcoals and dark plums alongside lighter wood grains.
Appliances: retro colours such as red, lime greens, hot oranges and sunny yellows – good way to bring a splash of colour and create a statement without overpowering through cabinetry.
Tapware: Brass tapware and joinery is still popular, however the classic polished chrome still outweighs brass. Simply upgrading joinery hardware can instantly modernise the look and feel of your kitchen, whether that be with chrome, matt black or brass pulls or knobs.
Splashbacks: Deep colours such as plums, purples and blues will be a standout for 2018. Dark plum and purple are set to become the queen of kitchen colour in 2018. It suggests royalty – a rich and luxurious feel that also pairs well with grey. As it is such a rich colour it is probably better to be used as a splash of colour or accent through accessories or your splashback. Tiles next year are all about pattern and texture. Vertical and diagonal tiling are adding a new dimension to kitchens as well as vibrant colours and patterns.
Sinks: Black sinks are still a feature in kitchens, particularly sinks without a drainer to keep the clutter off benchtops and focus utilisation on the dishwasher. Otherwise white barn sinks are still a favourite.
